I want to know since i am independent and was cleared to be so, how long will it take to actually get money i just turned in the papers on monday of this week and i want to know if they have housing avaliable..i go to a jc so there is no living on campus. do they set aside money for living of campus? or does it all just go toward schooling?FAFSA?? I have already filed my papers and i am independent (i got it cleared and am shown to be dependent)?
Your school will not usually issue you a refund check until 4 weeks after the semester has started. So if you are planning on starting in the spring semester you would not likely get it until late Jan early Feb depending on the school.
Your financial aid goes to the school first, after the school has taken out what they need to pay for your tuition and fees and other charges like books (if they allow you to charge them against your aid) then you would get the extra to pay for housing, gas, food, etc.
It kind of stinks that you are an independent student because you will not get as much money. Independent students are not eligible for the PLUS parent loan if your school is very expensive or your Stafford loans are not enough.
