There are a couple of ways to clear the Carrier Jam.





First of all, you want to make sure the cartridge led is not opened inside of the printer by accident. If it is, try to use a butter knife or something flat and stiff, slide inside and place it on top of the cartridge led and close it.





If that's not the case, try to clean the encoder strip and make sure the encoder strip is in the correct position, not twisted or damaged. The carrier is the thing that holds the 2 cartridges. The encoder strip is the clear tape like strip located at the back of the carrier and runs all the way from left to right (horizontally). If that strip is dirty, damaged, or out of position, it will make the carrier jump, slip or stop, then it will jammed. You can use a paper towel or clean lint free cloth to clean the strip. Make sure that you use one hand to hold the strip and not pulling it too hard. If the strip is broken and got pull out, you just wasted your printer. So be very gentle and careful.

If you are not able to clear the jam but your printer is still under warranty, call Dell, they might be able to give you warranty service or replacement. If it's out of warranty, don't even try get it replaced, it does not worth it, buy a new printer.
