When writing a paper in MLA format where it's clear that you are only using 1 source?

is it necessary to have a works cited page if its clear that you only used one source? I did a paper and did in-text citations but I didn't put a works cited because I only used one novel which I mentioned in the text of the paper. I've been taught that it's not necessary in the case that it's explicitly clear you only used that source. I'm hoping I won't be counted off too many points. When writing a paper in MLA format where it's clear that you are only using 1 source?
I'd suggest making one anyway and putting it at the end. Did you know you can also cite your class discussions? That'll REALLY impress the professor... you should do that too. :)
